43% of Hospitalized UK Patients Were Positive for COVID Only AFTER Admission

An investigation into hospital admissions in the United Kingdom by August 15, 2021, showed that 43% of the patients checked in for reasons other than a COVID infection.

A similar analysis showed that by June 21, 2021, 39% of patients did not come to the hospital for a suspected COVID infection, but only tested positive later during a routine swabbing for the virus.

That so many are testing positive after coming in for something else is a concern to health officials because if they are asymptomatic but infectious, they could spread the infection before anyone knew they were positive for it.

In the same investigation, it was revealed that 6 in 10 Delta variant patients were discharged from the hospital the same day they were admitted. Other findings showed that of those hospitalized in England since February 2021, 55.3% of people over age 50 were fully vaccinated, and 44.7% of those under 50 were fully vaccinated.

Of those who were not vaccinated at all, only 2.7% comprised those over age 50, while 97.3% of the unvaccinated admitted to the hospital were under 50. Of those who had received just one shot and were admitted to the hospital, 90.5% were under age 50. Health officials said the under-50s were larger for that age group because they were more likely not have been vaccinated yet.
